Santo Domingo.- The Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Palizawarned this Wednesday that after the withdrawal of the Fiscal Modernization bill proposed by the Executive Branch, in the future, the Government must “strictly impose” other existing laws that were not given due application.

He specified that they are laws of different natures that have traditionally received some treatment other than the strict mandate of the law.

«Those are one of the things that will have to be done in the course of this reality, is to strictly impose laws there, which for such or such reasons, since their application years ago, perhaps they have not found a literal application of each of them. his lyrics,” said Paliza.

When participating in the Weekly Lunch of the Corripio Media Group, the official indicated that one of the strengths of the tax reform that the population did not consider was the elimination of privileges and all preferential schemes historically present in tax exemptions.

He recognized that some cases would have required gradualness or rethinking through discussion or consensus but that this possibility remained in the past due to the rejection of the population and subsequent withdrawal of the aforementioned bill.

“Perhaps some required gradualness, some perhaps required being thought about in a different way. Well, and in a discussion that could take place, more appropriate or appropriate ways could be found. But hey, now the topic of the past. The project has been withdrawn and the President has no intention of presenting a reform project,” he reiterated.

In his opinion, with the opposition to the tax reform the country lost an important space to rethink many of these models of incentives and privileges.

“It is not up to us to subjugate the people who chose us, those who made us. We are leaders of a collective responsibility to impose a vision on the country and that is why we withdraw it. “It is as responsible to have presented it for discussion, as it is also responsible, in the face of disagreement of that nature, to have the tranquility, the humility, in the case of President Abinader, to present himself to the country and withdraw the piece from that discussion,” Paliza said during the meeting.
