This is how the mining and peasant strike progresses in the national territory

This Wednesday marks three days since the start of the mining and peasant strike that has spread to different areas of the national territory. The demonstrations respond to the discontent generated by decree 044 of 2024 and the effects that this could have not only for mining activity, but also for other productive sectors.

Although the mobilizations have developed peacefully, the blockades on key roads have complicated mobility, particularly in regions such as Bajo Cauca, Antioquia, Santander and Boyacá.

From Antioquia, for example, the Defense guild for land cargo transportation (Defencarga) called on the National Government to address this situation urgently and thus avoid “greater effects on the economy, the logistics sector and the well-being of millions of Colombians.”

According to the union, in just two days, the shipment of 70,167 tons of products has been committed, impacting supply and productivity.

The most critical points that have been identified in this region are: via Cisneros-Barbosa, in the Porcesito sector; via Los Llanos-Tarazá, La Bomba Texaco sector; via Tarazá–Caucasia, El Coliseo sector and via Caucasia–La Apartada, Campo Alegre sector.

For its part, in Boyacá, the Government announced that the blockades are impacting the fuel supply. In total, There are 10 municipalities in which gasoline shortages are reported, including Santa Rosa, Sogamoso, Pesca, San Mateo, Gameza, Iza, Duitama, Tibasosa, Firavitoba and Belén.

The report from the departmental administration also indicates that Belén presents complications in the public transportation service and the town of Pesca in the school transportation service. In addition, accumulation of garbage has been recorded in seven municipalities.

Technical tables

Within the framework of the COP16 being held in Cali, the Minister of the Environment, Susana Muhamad, announced the installation of dialogue tables to meet the requirements of mining workers.

“We have sent Vice Minister Tatiana Roa to these tables and we already have a delegation of more than 20 officials in Bucaramanga from the Ministry of Mines, the National Mining Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of the Environment, to address the demands of Protestants. So we will wait how the process develops,” he pointed out.

The Ombudsman’s Office also issued a statement mentioning that, in its role as guarantor of human rights, He conveyed the concerns of the mining leaders to the Executive.
