Since January of this year, the position has been vacant, after Ernestina Godoy’s term ended after failing to obtain the necessary votes – 44 of 66 of the deputies of the capital’s Congress – to be ratified in the position. Since then, Ulises Lara López, who was spokesperson during the Godoy administration, has been in charge of the institution.
Requirements for the new CDMX prosecutor
At the time of his appointment, the person in charge of the capital’s Prosecutor’s Office will have to meet the following conditions:
- Be a Mexican person at least 35 years of age.
- Have a degree and professional license in Law, experience of at least five years and have convictions in the past for an intentional crime.
- Approve evaluations, trust certifications and submit asset declaration.
- Not having held an elected position or having led a political party for at least one year before the appointment.
- Must be an honorable person, with legal knowledge and experience and in the administration of justice, with the capacity for administration and institutional direction, as well as in the design of public policies.
- Have independence in their actions, a vision of respect and protection of human rights, attention to victims and a gender perspective.
Citizens who meet the requirements of the call may apply, and academic, civil society, business and trade union organizations, as well as bars and associations of lawyers and higher education institutions, may also propose candidates.
