Unitary Platform: Maduro uses Citgo issue to deepen state terrorism

Unitary Platform: Keeping copies of voting minutes is the right of each candidate

The Unitary Platform considered that the Maduro administration underestimated the organizational power of the almost 8 million people “who on July 28 told this regime that enough is enough with the embezzlement of our country’s resources, with the violations of the human rights and the crisis that has led millions into exile”

The Unitary Platform rejected the mandate of the National Assembly (AN) in 2020 to initiate an investigation against 351 opposition leaders for the “theft” of the subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa) in the United States (USA), Citgo.

The coalition of parties published a statement this Wednesday in October in which it stressed that President Nicolás Maduro, through the AN “has decided to deepen the policy of State terrorism to avoid any true opposition to his decision to stay in power in an authoritarian and illegitimate manner.” beyond January 10, 2025.

The opposition rejected the Government ordering the institutions to persecute the opposition leadership, now under the argument of having supported the alleged dispossession of Citgo. He recalled that the company is subject to judicial harassment by the Republic’s creditors in a process that has not been concluded and that is a consequence of large debts derived from expropriations and breach of contracts by the governments of Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro.

He asserted that blaming dissidence for what happened with Citgo “is nothing more than an excuse, in an attempt to leave Venezuelans without leaders.”

The Unitary Platform considered that the Maduro administration underestimated the organizational power of the almost 8 million people “who on July 28 told this regime that enough is enough with the embezzlement of our country’s resources, with the violations of the human rights and the crisis that has led millions into exile.

He stressed that “nothing and no one will silence a people determined to recover their freedom to have a better future,” he stated.

The National Assembly (AN) 2020 approved the final report of the Special Commission that investigates the participation of political parties and parliament deputies between the years 2016-2021 in the “dispossession” of Citgo, and the Prosecutor’s Office was asked to initiate an investigation to determine responsibility of those involved.

The decision was made in the ordinary session on Tuesday, October 22. The deputies voted for the report to be sent to the Autonomous Notary Service, with the aim of identifying the property registry of those involved so that the Domain Forfeiture Law is applied in cases where it was necessary.

Parliament also urged the Attorney General’s Office to issue prohibitions on alienating and encumbering assets, as well as freezing the accounts of those involved in the “Citgo theft” between 2019 and 2020, when deputy Juan Guaidó served as “president in charge.” .
