“There was no one to rescue us”: Cuban in charge of 29 children claims Díaz-Canel

SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- A Cuban resident in San Antonio del Sur, Guantánamo, complained to the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel that he was in charge of 29 children in the Special School during the passage of the hurricane oscar in their area and no one came to rescue them, as revealed in a video published by the media Martí News.

During a tour by Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, accompanied by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman, through that area, shocked Because of the floods, a Cuban told the president that the regime abandoned them.

“They left us alone there, 29 children. I had to evacuate the children, we almost couldn’t,” said the man from Guantanamo from one of the areas affected by oscar.

When Díaz-Canel asked who had left them alone, the man replied: “The government. They left us there and abandoned us. There was no one, no one to rescue us.”

The Cuban said that despite promising that they would send a rescue team, it did not happen and he himself had to rescue the children, who were suffering from hypothermia due to the sudden floods.

Díaz-Canel, not knowing how to deal with the complaint, responded that they had been taken to the Special School “precisely for evacuation” and that “what happens is that the phenomenon has surpassed it here.”

To this the man replied: “Yes, it was over, but they said they were going to leave a team there to rescue us in case the river got in, and they left us there. I had to rescue those people thanks to others.”

The ruler put an end to the claim by assuring the man that he would “investigate” what happened.

This same route on Wednesday was reviewed by the press local official, who collected some words that reveal the cynicism of the ruler: “They are not alone or abandoned. Cuba depends on you.”

San Antonio del Sur and Imías continue to go through an adverse scenario, since the hurricane caused the rivers and dams to flood and covered the towns with water, leaving countless people missing and others dead.

The activist Emilio Almaguer informed Martí News that the authorities continued the search this Wednesday for missing people, carried away by water currents after the overflowing of rivers and reservoirs.

Social networks have been filled with messages where many Cubans ask for information about their relatives and wait for information that will save them from anguish, in the midst of the lack of communication in which these towns remain.

This Tuesday, Díaz-Canel Bermúdez confirmed that there are seven fatalities as a result of the meteorological phenomenon.

One in Imías and six in the municipality of San Antonio del Sur are the preliminary balance of the victims caused during the passage of Hurricane Oscar. Among those deceased are three older adults over 80 years old, two people between 30 and 40 years old and a five-year-old child.

Although the authorities have not specified the causes of the deaths, images shared on social networks suggest that the victims They could have died from drowning due to intense flooding in the region.

After the onslaught of Oscar’s hurricane-force winds, a six-year-old boy, resident in Baracoahad to be transferred urgently, by air, to the “Octavio de la Concepción y la Pedraja” General Teaching Hospital in that territory and later to the Southern Pediatric Hospital, in Santiago de Cubaafter being seriously injured.
