Army stops truck with 38 undocumented immigrants hidden under banana leaves

Autoridades de RD detienen a 96 haitianos indocumentados en Montecristi

In an operation carried out in the province of Valverde, members of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) stopped a truck in the city of Mao, where they discovered 38 Haitian citizens with irregular immigration status hidden under banana leaves.

The vehicle, a white Daihatsu Delta truck, was intercepted by an ERD patrol, which proceeded to arrest three men on board.

The detainees were identified as Dagoberto Rodríguez Taveras, Pedro Noel Torres and Tere Reyes Guzmán, who served as the driver and companions in the truck.

The authorities reported that undocumented Haitian citizens will be handed over to the General Directorate of Immigration for repatriation.

For their part, the three arrested men will be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry to face charges of human trafficking.
