The Frente Amplio (FA) culminated its electoral campaign this Tuesday in Montevideo, gathering thousands of followers in an event full of fervor. The candidates of the left-wing opposition party, Yamandú Orsi and Carolina Cosse, promised to become a symbol of “hope” for the political future of Uruguay.

The event took place in the iconic Parque Batlle, where the red, white and blue colors of the FA dominated the scene. To the rhythm of popular music and with the stellar presence of the Uruguayan singer Ruben Rada, the crowd joined in singing and celebrating. “With Yamandú and Carolina there is hope,” read a message visible to everyone present.

Carolina Cosse, vice presidential candidate and former mayor of Montevideo, was the first to address the public. His speech focused on the value of humanism. “That is why humanism is so important, because people are needed, because we are fundamental,” he stated. Cosse highlighted the need for active participation of every Uruguayan, emphasizing that “there is no possibility of moving forward if it is not with everyone.”

Commitment to education and culture: axes of the FA

The candidate stressed the importance of education as a driver of personal and social development. “Teachers are needed so that, once again, the desire to learn, the ability to read, to move forward becomes the tool to navigate life,” Cosse highlighted, underlining the central role of teaching in his vision for the country.

Cosse expressed his confidence in the victory of the FA in the next elections, assuring that Yamandú Orsi will be “a great president.” The certainty in his words was accompanied by an explicit thank you to Orsi for his work in the campaign.

The audience showed their enthusiasm with chants of support while a biographical video of Orsi echoed through the venue. When speaking, Orsi expressed his gratitude to the followers of the Frente Amplio and referred to the “harvest time” that the party is experiencing.

Democratic milestones and future commitments

Orsi recalled the democratic recovery that will be celebrated in 2025, marking 40 years since the end of the dictatorship in Uruguay. He expressed: “These 40 years that we celebrate, we have to celebrate them as a slow process that carves the rock, of resistance.” He recalled the difficult and long road to the return to democracy, underlining the historical importance of this achievement.

In addition, he outlined the “five commitments” that he would assume as president: dialogue, economic growth, social protection, security and honesty. «I want to be president because I want to fulfill this commitment. “I want to take charge of fulfilling each of those basic commitments together with the FA team,” he stated.

The central theme of his speech was hope, which he described as a vital driver for unity and progress. «What unites us is an enormous hope that is being built these days and that is what we hope for so much. What really unites us, the conviction of a country that can grow and take care of its people, the commitment to honesty, transparency and solidarity,” Orsi concluded.
