In the midst of the economic and social crisis due to the blockades, the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) in the Legislature shows signs of re-articulating itself. The assembly members took off the shirt that divided them between arcistas and evistas and were one to elect the new Attorney General of the State, Roger Mariaca, who obtained 115 of 161 votes from parliamentarians.

For the opposition, what the radical and renewing Masistas did by shielding a single candidate was “a pact for impunity” to favor Luis Arce and especially Evo Morales due to the various criminal accusations against him.in a pragmatic cohesion with the sole purpose of mutual benefit.

Along these lines, archism also sheds light on the fact that for the election of chamber directives they work under that principle.

Joint decision

From both chambers, the Senate and Deputies, the assembly members admitted that they reached prior consensus to elect Mariaca as the new State Prosecutor.

“Definitely we have always met as a group to give the corresponding guidelines, without thinking that we can still unite or not (…) and “We have analyzed and our bench said: ‘yes, we must approve’ (Mariaca’s appointment)”, Senator Hilarión Mamani stated to EL DEBER.

And an example of this blue consensus is that the assembly members of Evo Morales’ block also attended the inauguration of the new Attorney General Mariaca, although they witnessed the event from the last rows of the Vice Presidential hall, many who attack and disqualify and accuse each other of everything through media microphones, yesterday they saw each other’s faces and shook hands.

Along the same lines, the deputy of the Arcist bloc, Juan José Huanca, also stated that a “consensus to provide answers” because he said that if a Prosecutor was not elected, the assembly members would have been the target of attacks and accusations.

“What must be highlighted and clearly established, beyond prejudices and speculation, is that a joint decision has been made and the Political Constitution of the State has been complied with,” said Huanca.

And the evistas, in the voice of Hilarión Mamani, qualify the fact by stating that if they did not reach this agreement they would have gotten bogged down, a fact that would have been taken advantage of. by President Luis Arce to appoint an Attorney General by supreme decree.

“Why have we approved? Because we do not have confidence in President Lucho and If we had not reached two-thirds, the president could appoint a prosecutor by decree. We have analyzed this and approved it for the benefit of the Bolivian people,” added Senator Mamani.

And regarding the election of the chamber directives, the Arcist deputy Huanca indicated that they are already working on it and assured that they will choose the best and the one who generates consensus. “It is in these days, with certainty that there will be no date or time, We are going to call suddenly because that is due to a strategy and we are going to make a decision internally.”

“Pact of impunity”

The head of the Citizen Community (CC) bench, in Deputies, Enrique Urquidi, stated that the evistas and arcistas have forgotten their differences and have acted with pragmatism, all to take care of their political interests.

“What there was yesterday in the Legislative Assembly is a pact for impunity, fundamentally for the Evo Morales sector and also a pact of impunity for Luis Arce and his Government. What was seen was the reunification of arcism with evism,” Urquidi told EL DEBER.

The legislator also pointed out to the dissidents of CC and Podemos who formed his “Manfredista bench” and assured that they reinforced the two-thirds. “It has been the votes of these turncoats who respond to Reyes Villa who have joined the support of Mr. Mariaca”.

“Let him resign”

Meanwhile, for the Evista deputy, Freddy López, he said that President Luis Arce has two options left “if he does not solve the country’s problem, he has to call national elections and resign because this situation is not going to stop.”

“Two-thirds prosecutor”

The new State Attorney General, Roger Mariaca, was elected with 115 votes, which is more than two-thirds that he required to be elected. He replaces Juan Lanchipa who was sworn in on October 23, 2018. The term is six years.
