Army: soldiers have been subjected to migrant trafficking

In the last month, the Dominican authorities have brought more than 20 people before the Public Ministry for illicit trafficking of immigrants.

Included in the list are militarymembers of the Immigration Directorate, the National Police, drivers and ordinary citizens.

“On the issue of trafficking of undocumented immigrants many sectors are involvedit is a problem that must be seen in a holistic, broad way, it is an evil, it is a scourge that must be fought,” said the commander general of the ArmyMajor General Jorge Iván Camino Pérez.

The official, together with the director of Immigration, Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, visited the provinces of Elías Piña and Dajabón to verify the work carried out by both institutions in the security and control border, as well as the management of the massive plan for the deportation of migrants in irregular conditions.

As part of the visit, they held a meeting with the governors of Dajabón and Elías Piña, Severina Gil and Migdalys de los Santos, in which representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Refugee Agency, participated. (UNHCR) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Deported migrants

The General Directorate of Immigration (DGM) reported that since the operation began on October 2, 27,352 foreigners with irregular immigration status have been returned to their country.

Both Camino Pérez and Lee Ballester highlighted the work carried out in recent weeks in operations joint migratory interdiction and against other threats to the security national.

Furthermore, during his visit to the provinces borderwere delivered uniforms military as part of the necessary supplies to motivate the troops to continue such an important mission for national sovereignty.

Also present on the tour were the director of the Specialized Corps of Security Border (Cesfront), General José Rodríguez Coste (ERD), and other authorities military. Merchants and businessmen from the area also participated in another meeting.
