“In the course of the afternoon we will surely be, through the Regional Directorate of Metropolitan Lima, issuing a statement if the situation warrants it,” he indicated on RPP.
The head of Education reiterated that his sector is evaluating the situation, but recalled that on other occasions remote education was applied in schools to guarantee the safety of students.
Quero minimized the strike and stated that the large unions will not participate in the strike called for this Wednesday, October 23. Quero described it as a “minority strike” and “very politicized.”
“I want to highlight that, for example, the SUTEP has lifted its national strike, the CGTP has also indicated that it will not participate in this strike by that group of drivers. The most relevant transport unions are, let’s say, ready to continue working” , said.
Conviction of Alejandro Toledo
The Minister of Education also referred to the sentence of 20 years and 6 months against former president Alejandro Toledo. In that sense, he considered that the sentence should be seen as a “demarcation” of any act of corruption.
“Corruption has been an endemic evil in our country, in history, and therefore we have to give very clear, very forceful signals of delimitations in the face of these events. We are going to see this decision of the Judiciary in this instance anyway. Surely other things will be seen in the appeal, but in fact we all knew that President Toledo’s situation at the time has been highly questioned,” he assured.
The Second National Collegiate Criminal Court found the former president guilty of the crimes of collusion and money laundering, after it was proven that he received bribes from the construction company Odebrecht in exchange for benefiting it in the awarding of the construction of the Interoceanic highway sections 2 and 3.
