The Santo Domingo Este and Norte Prosecutor’s Office managed to get a court in this municipality to sentence a man to 20 years in prison who caused the death of another during a robbery that occurred in the Villa Mella community, in Santo Domingo Norte.
The sentence was imposed on the accused Daniel Vizcaíno, alias El Sobrino, by the judges of the First Collegiate Court, Elizabeth Esperanza Rodríguez Espinal (president), Flor E. Batista Polo and José Leonel Asencio Quezada (members), for causing the death of the citizen Haitian Papito Munuy Faustin.
According to the investigations carried out by prosecutor John Richard Suncar Castillo, the event occurred on August 18, 2023, around 10:00 in the morning, while the deceased was with another person identified as Moreno Montero Otaño. , in a grocery store in the Punta town, Villa Mella, Santo Domingo Norte. As established, Vizcaíno and another man only identified as Guanito and/or Yoan (the latter a fugitive), upon arriving at the scene, immediately slapped and searched Montero Otaño, but he had nothing.
Subsequently, the attackers approached the deceased Papito, who resisted when they tried to search him, leading to a struggle in the middle of which the now accused Daniel Vizcaíno grabbed a knife that he was carrying, like a machete, and hit him several times. lungescausing lethal injuries, which caused their death.
After the criminals finished off the victim’s house, they took possession of his cell phone and fled the scene, with Vizcaíno being arrested around 6:10 in the morning of the next day, August 19, 2023. During his arrest, He took the cell phone stolen from the deceased, as well as the murder weapon.
The Judicial Autopsy report No. SD-A-0889-2023, from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif), establishes that the victim died from multiple wounds in different parts of the body, caused by a knife.
During the trial, trial prosecutors Evelyn Peña and Alexis Casado provided the court with compelling evidence about the criminal responsibility of the convicted man, who was found guilty of violating articles 265, 266, 295, 304, 379, 382 and 385 of the Dominican Penal Code. , and articles 83, 86, of Law 631-16, for the Control and Regulation of Weapons, Ammunition and Related Materials.
