From Cusco, the president of JudiciaryJavier Arévalo Vela, assured today that the institution he directs does not endorse or protect any judge who, improperly, releases criminals. He maintained that, on the contrary, he will demand that they be sanctioned.
During the inauguration of the Cusco Flagrancy Unit, he noted: “The Plenary Chamber (of the Supreme Court of Justice) has ratified it like this, we do not endorse or protect any judge who, improperly, releases criminals, they do not have our support, In fact, we will demand that they be punished, the Judiciary does not support any judge who commits irregularities.”
In addition, he asked that a law be approved that would allow police officers to be supported when they confront armed criminals.
“There must be a law that allows the National Police to be supported in their interventions when faced with criminals who use firearms and explosives,” he emphasized.
In addition, demanded greater support from the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte for the fight against crime, especially for the National Police.
A similar request was made to the Nation’s new prosecutor, Delia Espinoza, who was asked to provide support to her prosecutors, as well as greater commitment from the Public Ministry in the judicial districts where flagrante delicto units have been implemented.
He also once again urged the Congress of the Republic to approve the Law that creates the National Specialized Criminal Flagrancy System so that the institutions of the justice system work with more commitment and greater resources in the prosecution of crime.
SIX THOUSAND CONVICTED
With this location inaugurated, there are 13 installed in different superior courts: La Libertad (2), Lima Sur, Lima Centro, Callao, Lima Norte, Lima Este, Sullana, El Santa, Arequipa, Lambayeque and Tacna.
Arévalo Vela reported that units will soon be inaugurated in Ica, Piura, Tumbes, as well as in Puente Piedra-Ventanilla and San Martín de Porres (both in Lima), which will total 18 units.
The flagrante delicto units have resolved 86% of the cases they received. That is, of a total of 7,365 cases admitted to the 12 flagrante delicto units implemented so far, 6,477 were resolved with a conviction.
