This afternoon, the Judiciary convicted the former president Alejandro Toledo Manrique to 20 years and 6 months in prison for the Section II and III case of the South Interoceanic Highway. The news caused confusion for the former president, who reportedly had an angry response.
Prosecutor José Domingo asked Judge Zaida Pérez to speak to point out that Toledo Manrique had insulted him after hearing the judge’s ruling.
“It is recorded in the cameras that the convicted Alejandro Toledo has directed grievances towards me stating the following: ‘conch…’. “Those words, but well…” he expressed indignantly.
The judge responded to the prosecutor that she had the right to take appropriate action after the former president’s disrespectful behavior.
“Everything is recorded. If this has happened like this, which we have not been able to warn, you will be able to take the corresponding actions, it will be filmed…”, said José Domingo Pérez.
WHAT DID ALEJANDRO TOLEDO’S LAWYER SAY AFTER INSULT?
Alejandro Toledo’s lawyer, Roberto Su, also requested the images of the cameras that recorded the reading of the sentence.
“I also want to see the cameras, I want to see if the prosecutor has made a gesture, if he has mocked, if he has laughed. How strange that the prosecutor has looked into the face of my client, how strange, we are supposed to look at you, I have not looked at the prosecutor or the prosecutor or Perico de los Palotes, I have come to listen to you, “We are going to see the cameras,” he said.
The magistrate told him that he had the right to request the recording of the images: “Well doctor, they have the right too, there are the cameras, everything is filmed, here is the press, there is no problem.”
In addition to the sentence of 20 years and 6 months in prison, Toledo must pay civil compensation of S/1,375 million and US$ 463 million.
