The Public Security Secretariat of the State of São Paulo (SSP) reported that the police detained this Monday (21) a suspect of shoot the mayor and candidate for reelection from Taboão da Serra (SP), José Aprígio da Silva (Podemos), last Friday (18). According to the SSP, the suspect was taken to the 1st Police District of Taboão da Serra to give a statement.
Aprígio was shot in the left shoulder while returning from a campaign commitment aboard an armored car on the Régis Bittencourt Highway. According to Taboão da Serra city hall, the armored car was approached by a vehicle that approached from the side, with one of the occupants firing several shots.
The mayor was initially taken to the Akira Tada Emergency Care Unit, in Taboão da Serra, where he received first aid. He was later transferred to Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, in the south of São Paulo, where he remains under medical care.
Early Friday night, the São Paulo Civil Police confirmed that the attack was committed with rifle shots.
