ASSE inaugurated the headquarters of the Obesity and Bariatric Surgery Service at the Maciel Hospital
The State Health Services Administration (ASSE) presented, yesterday, Monday the 21st, the new infrastructure of the Obesity and Bariatric Surgery Service of the Maciel hospital. Since its creation, this unit has treated more than 1,000 patients and performed more than 650 interventions.
The new headquarters, located at Washington 229 corner Maciel, offers better access to patients, in a space designed for comprehensive and specialized care to users, and an environment suitable for group and physical activities. It will allow the work to continue, by strengthening support in key areas, such as physical activity and psychological care, indicated the interim director of the care center, Andrea Vaucher.
Likewise, he expressed that obesity is a chronic, multifactorial disease, in whose therapy many specialties interact. “A fundamental pillar is to change behaviors to arrive well prepared for surgery, which is another tool in the treatment of obesity,” he said.
The general manager of ASSE, Juan Ramón Blanco, said that the treatment provided by the service leads to an improvement in the quality of life and the prevention of diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and obstructive sleep apnea. In addition, he stated that the state provider is interested in continuing with this benefit, which is not part of the comprehensive health care plan, and added that it is free and national in scope.
The therapy is personalized and its approach is comprehensive and includes long-term follow-up. The interdisciplinary team is made up of surgeons, internists, nutritionists, psychologists and specialists in anesthesiology, diabetes, cardiology and psychiatry, among others.
In 2018, the service received the National Medicine Award, awarded by the National Academy of Medicine, for its continued work and research work.
