Delcy Rodríguez and Yván Gil landed in Russia to attend the Brics summit

The BRICS partner countries will consider the entry of at least 15 countries as partners, where Venezuela would be one of the candidates.


The vice president and Minister of Petroleum, Delcy Rodríguez, together with the chancellor, Yván Gil, landed this Monday, October 21, in Russia in order to participate in the Brics summit that will be held starting Tuesday the 22nd in the city of Kazan.

This was reported by the portal RT News, who posted on his social networks an image of Rodríguez and Gil at the foot of the steps of the plane that took them to Moscow and where they are received by a delegation and journalists from various media.

This meeting of the Brics to which Rodríguez and Gil arrive was preceded by the announcement of the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silvawho canceled his trip to Russia this Sunday, October 20, to attend this summit due to “medical guidance” and after suffering a “domestic accident” in which he hit his head, government and hospital sources reported.

The Brazilian Presidency stated in a statement that it was decided to cancel the trip due to a “temporary impediment for long-term flights,” but that Lula will participate in the meeting by videoconference.

The Kremlin’s advisor for international affairs, Yuri Ushakov, stated this Monday, October 21, that the members of the BRICS are studying the entry of 15 countries into their group as partners.

«The leaders (of the Brics) will decide which group of countries could be included in the category of partner states. Currently 15 are being considered,” Ushakov told the TASS agency, where he explained that the partners will be chosen according to several criteria, in particular for their influence on regional and international affairs.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that around thirty countries had expressed interest in participating in joining the Brics in one way or another, including Cuba, Venezuela, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Malaysia.
