Under the motto “More sustainable, more digital, more resilient and more APEC”, the 31st Meeting of Finance Ministers began in Lima of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) 2024, which brings together representatives of member economies, international organizations and the private sector.

This meeting has been in progress since October 18 and will end on October 21; and is part of the more than 240 ministerial and high-level meetings that take place throughout the year under the Peruvian presidency of APEC 2024.
During these sessions, finance ministers and heads of delegation will work on the development and review of economic and financial policies for the Asia-Pacific region. The debates are focused on key topics such as carbon pricing measures, sustainable energy transition, financing of sustainable infrastructure, digital financial education, open finance and financing of hydrometeorological risks. These themes reflect the region’s priorities to address current economic and environmental challenges.
Joint declaration
The main objective of the event is to conclude with the adoption of a Joint Declaration of Finance Ministers, which will collect the progress and agreements reached during the year. This document will highlight initiatives that promote sustainable and digital economic growth, while strengthening multilateral cooperation to address global challenges.
Among the measures that are expected to be promoted are those related to the modernization of the cooperation platform between APEC finance ministers, with a focus on making processes more efficient and ensuring that they are beneficial for all member economies.
The host of this important event, the Minister of Economy and Finance of Peru, José Arista, has highlighted the importance of this meeting in the current global context.
In parallel to the central meeting, a series of related events have been held that seek to strengthen the exchange of experiences and good practices among participants, in addition to promoting collaboration between the public and private sectors in areas such as sustainable finance.
Through these spaces, it is expected that governments and companies can generate joint projects aimed at modernizing their economies and building a more balanced and fair future for the Asia-Pacific region.
The event will culminate on October 21 with the official adoption of the Declaration of Finance Ministers, which will mark the closing of a year of joint work under the Peruvian presidency of APEC 2024.
This document will be key to defining the priorities and actions that APEC economies must follow in the coming years, oriented towards growth that integrates sustainability, digitalization and resilience in the face of global crises.
