“I have made the decision to be a candidate for the Presidency for the Democratic Center. I am going to lead a powerful movement that brings together all good Colombians and wins the elections in 2026 so that security returns to Colombia.“Uribe said in a video published on his social networks.
The Democratic Center has not defined who will be its candidate for the 2026 elections from a list of candidates of which they are also part the congresswomen María Fernanda Cabal, Paloma Valencia, Paola Holguín and Andrés Guerra, all fierce critics of President Gustavo Petro.
Uribe Turbay, 38 years old, assured that Colombia is facing a security crisis similar to that of 30 years ago, when the war against drug trafficking left thousands dead, including his mother.

The congressman is the grandson of former president Julio César Turbay (1978-1982) and son of the journalist Diana Turbay, kidnapped in August 1990 by drug traffickers under the command of capo Pablo Escobar and murdered on January 25, 1991.
Uribe Turbay, by profession a lawyer, was secretary of Bogotá in the mayor’s office of Enrique Peñalosa (2016-2018) and was also twice a councilor of the Colombian capital.
