Santo Domingo. The National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) seized 62 packages, presumably of cocaine, at the Punta Cana International Airport, La Altagracia province.
The authorities, after receiving intelligence reports and with the support of canine units, carried out an inspection operation in one of the container depot areas of the air terminal.
During the review, through an X-ray machine, and in which they participated in addition to the DNCD, The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) and members of the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC), under the coordination of the Public Ministry, detected irregular images inside one of the containers.

Following established protocols, the authorities carried out a more thorough inspection and discovered a double bottom in the floor of the container.
Inside, 62 packages were found wrapped in adhesive tape and marked with different logos, containing a substance presumed to be cocaine.
“The authorities have determined that the container, used for the air transport of goods, luggage and mail, was destined for Brussels, departing from the Punta Cana terminal,” indicated a statement from the anti-drug agency.
The Public Ministry and the DNCD continue to investigate this frustrated attempt at international drug trafficking, while reinforcing interdiction measures in the country’s air and port terminals.
The 62 packages of the alleged drug were sent, under strict chain of custody, to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) to determine the type and exact weight of the substance.
