Does not raise its head: National Electrical System collapses again in Cuba

AREQUIPA, Peru – Around 5:00 PM (Cuba time), another disconnection of the national Electrical System (SEN) occurred, according to reported the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) on social networks.

According to official data, at the time of the collapse, the restoration of electrical service had been achieved in 99 circuits in Havana, which represented only 34% of the capital’s clients.

Likewise, it emerged that to reach this coverage, some 211.89 megawatts of power had been recovered until then, which would also increase.

“Among the consumers that had been prioritized were hospitals and water supply sources. Of the first, the UNE reported, only the Leonor Pérez was missing in Havana, due to a breakdown in the network; the Cira García and the MININT Clinic, due to lack of megawatts,” says a publication in the official newspaper. Granma.

This represents the fourth large fall reported on the Island in the last three days. The first of them occurred last Friday, around 11:00 AM, when the MINEM reported on the social network

More than 48 hours later, most of the country remains in electrical service while the regime assures that it is working on its restoration. The discontent of the population was evident during the night of this Saturday in the form of multiple banging of pots and pans and peaceful protests, mainly in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba and Havana.

Given this panorama, the Cuban regime suspended activities and classes this Sunday for the next three days due to the worsening of the energy crisis and the impact of Hurricane Oscar in the eastern part of the Island.

The news emerged in an official Government note, published by the state media Cubadebate.

“Given the imminent passage of Hurricane Oscar through our country and the recovery period following it, as well as the work being undertaken to restore the national electrical system, it has been decided to suspend non-essential administrative activities and teaching activities, on the days Monday, October 21, Tuesday, October 22, and Wednesday, October 23, and maintain vital services for the population,” the notice states.
