President Luis Abinader presented this Monday on the LA Semanal program the new uniform that the National Police will be implemented starting in 2025. This uniform presents significant changes compared to the current one, including a new color and the incorporation of body cameras, whose objective is to increase transparency in police operations.
The presentation of the new uniform has generated mixed reactions among citizens. While some consider that “it is beautiful”, others believe that “color and style are not the solution.”
Some citizens have expressed that the new uniform reminds them of that of the Colombian police, stating that “it is the same Colombian uniform, the only thing they change is blue for green, it looks nice, hopefully the way it looks, the police will like it.” give your representation.” Others have criticized this similarity: “it is a literal copy of the Colombian uniform.”
The uniform, which is currently gray, will be replaced by a navy blue base with lighting details in aqua tones, which will allow greater visibility from afar. President Abinader explained that the selection of color and lighting elements was based on international studies: “All this is based on studies of why the color, why they are luminous; That is, everything is based on the professional police and how they use it in other countries,” he assured.
One of the innovations of the new uniform is the incorporation of a QR code that will allow access to the agent’s information by scanning it, as a measure to prevent identity theft. Regarding this aspect, some citizens have expressed their concern: “that fabric and those letters are not replicas, that people cannot buy them and use them at costume parties… that only police officers can use them.”
Others have expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of the QR code, suggesting that “there won’t be a single viable video” and warning: “take care of your cell phones, the first one to get the QR code will get a pair of cookies.” Likewise, they have asked that “the QR code not be hidden and that citizens have the legitimate right to scan and review if they prefer.”
In a joking tone, some social media users have joked about offering rewards to those who obtain the QR code: “I will give $1,000 to whoever obtains the code.” However, beyond the jokes, some comments on the Hoy newspaper’s publication on Instagram have highlighted the importance of training police officers, since they consider that “the problem is not clothing, but mentality.” A reader added with humor: “as if the fever were in the sheet.”
Among other novelties, the new uniform will also include a specialized kit for procedures and crime scenes, a multipurpose belt with the capacity to carry up to 10 accessories, and the institution’s new motto: “Protect and serve.”
