Corinthians, champion of the Copa Libertadores

The women’s team Corinthians conquered this Saturday for the fifth time the Libertadores Cupthe second in a row, by defeating 2-0 Independent Santa Fe at the Defensores del Chaco stadium in Asunción. On a hot day in the Paraguayan capital, Timão, champion in 2023, thus extended Brazilian dominance in the South American tournament, with 13 of the 16 titles played since 2009. Colo Colo (2012), Sportivo Limpeño (2016) and Atlético Huila (2018) complete the list.

Corinthians set the pace from the opening whistle and took the lead in the 17th minute through Victoria Alburqueque, who hit a shot into the left corner of Venezuelan goalkeeper Yessica Velásquez. The sentencing of the result came in the 67th minute with a header from Érika Cristiano dos Santos. Until then, the Bogotá team was pressing, although without order for the tie.

The Sao Paulo team extended the supremacy of the Brazilians in confrontations with Colombian formations in the history of the women’s Copa Libertadores, with eight victories, one draw and one defeat. Third place in the tournament was awarded to the Boca Juniors women’s team after beating the Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle 2-0 in Luque, a city neighboring Asunción.
