The Ministry of Health is expected to sign, in the coming days, a technical cooperation agreement with the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UniRio) and the Brazilian Hospital Services Company (Ebserh), so that they can take over the management of the Federal Hospital of Rio de Janeiro. State Servants (HFSE). The idea is for the health unit to become an extension of the Gaffrée and Guinle University Hospital, linked to UniRio and managed by Ebserh.
The information was disclosed to Brazil Agency this Saturday (19) by the deputy secretary of Specialized Health Care of the Ministry of Health, Nilton Pereira Junior.
“Gaffrée Hospital is a structure where it is no longer possible to increase the number of beds. Ebserh is able to expand the hospital, but not in the current structure. And Hospital dos Servidores could also be a great opportunity for it to become a university hospital. Today it has almost 170 inoperative beds”, explained the secretary.
According to him, after signing the agreement, a diagnosis will be made of the unit, so that it can be transformed into a university hospital. The UniRio University Council, however, will still need to approve the measure.
“From then on, UniRio enters into a management contract with Ebserh and starts managing this hospital.”
According to Pereira Junior, the idea is that both Gaffrée e Guinle and Hospital dos Servidores will gain from the integration of the two units: “The idea is to transform them into a hospital that is bigger than the sum of the two together today. . We have some beds closed at Gaffrée due to structural issues in a historic building that is more than 100 years old and we have many beds closed at Hospital dos Servidores due to lack of professionals and structural issues. We would have both hospitals in a new, more efficient, more rational model with more beds than the sum of the two currently.”
Hospital dos Servidores will be the third of the six general federal hospitals in Rio to leave the direct administration of the Ministry of Health. Hospital do Andaraí will, in the coming days, be completely managed by the city hall.
