Dane launches Wayúu Information System in Riohacha: what it is about

At an event, the launch of the Wayúu Information System (SIW), a tool designed for offer accurate and updated data from various national entities and territorial. This system’s fundamental objective is to support the formulation of public policies that improve the quality of life of the Wayúu people.

The Information System represents progress in compliance with Ruling T-302 of 2017 of the Constitutional Court, which declared the state of affairs unconstitutional due to the violation of fundamental rights of the Wayúu community, especially boys and girls.

With this System, public entities, decision makers and the community in general will be able to access reliable data on aspects such as access to water, health, food security and mobility in the municipalities of Uribia, Manaure, Maicao and Riohacha.

Among the resources available in the Information System, the following stand out:

– Geovisor: provides georeferenced and thematic data on the different rights protected in Sentence T-302 of 2017.

– Data Dashboard: facilitates a detailed visual analysis that reflects the current state of needs of Sentence T-302 of 2017, offering exhaustive information on the fundamental rights of the Wayúu people.

– Action viewer: allows you to make queries about the different actions of the National and territorial Government entities.

The Information System will be updated with the Wayúu Multidimensional Registry and with information from government entities, guaranteeing an appropriate differential approach by providing data collected directly with the community.

Piedad Urdinola, director of Dane, highlighted the importance of the Information System as a key tool to monitor and evaluate public policies aimed at the Wayúu people. “This system will be fundamental not only to understand the current situation of the Wayúu community, but also to ensure that public policy decisions are based on updated data,” he stated.

In its first phase, the Information System It is now available for public consultation, with free access and interoperability mechanisms with other entities. Besides, A version in Wayuunaiki is being developed to facilitate its use by the Wayúu community, thus fulfilling Dane’s commitment to making information accessible and inclusive.

The launch event was attended by B. Piedad Urdinola Contreras, director of Dane, Álvaro Echeverry, director of the National Prior Consultation Authority; Mauricio Giraldo, advisor to the Office of the Presidential Counsel for the Regions, María Fernanda Rojas, Deputy Director General of the Department of Social Prosperity, Any Alejandra Tovar, Deputy Director of Legal Defense – SuperSalud; as well as representatives of national and territorial entities such as the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF), Invías, the Superintendency of Health, the Secretariats of Health and the Government of La Guajira, among others.
