Recognizing the exceptional contributions and outstanding performance in the area of ​​science and technology in terms of scientific, technological development and innovation of the Sinaloan scientific community, Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, accompanied by Mayor Juan de Dios Gámez, Representative Geraldine Bonilla, the Secretary of Public Education Gloria Himelda Félix and the General Coordination for the Promotion of Scientific Research and Innovation of the State of Sinaloa (CONFIE) Carlos Karam Quiñones presented the 2024 “Dr. Cesar Abelino Ordorica Falomir” to Dr. Crisantema Hernández González and the “Eustaquio Buelna” Award for the Best Postgraduate Thesis to Dr. Alejandro David Ortiz Marín at the doctoral level and Ms. Guadalupe Yuceli Sánchez Núñez at the Master’s level.

“I have an interest in science, we are going to support them, we are going to continue promoting young people,” Governor Rocha Moya expressed in his speech, pointing out that science and technology must be promoted so that it improves, especially because Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum is a scientist who also created the Secretariat of Sciences with the intention of promoting these disciplines in the country. “You have to push with us, I am also involved, it is my turn to be the government and I am of the idea that we can improve, we have improved the budgets for science a little” added the state president.

He also recognized the efforts of the winners, congratulating them for promoting and stimulating scientific research with projects that generate a tangible impact on the development of Sinaloa.

For his part, Carlos Karam Quiñonez Coordinator of CONFIE, highlighted that in this edition there were 7 academics who applied for the Scientific Merit 7 award, who were evaluated by their peers from UNAM and the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (Cinvestav), who consider the impact that the applicant’s work has on state development, with Dr. Crisantema Hernández González the winner, for her work on projects that seek to integrate local communities into the aquaculture value chain, promoting employment and economic development in rural areas. “The virtue of the scientific merit award, the highest award that the State Government grants to the research professional, through CONFIE, which goes through a rigorous evaluation by national peers, is not only measured in publications, awards received or patents, is measured in the lasting impact it has on society and in the inspiration it provides to generations of young scientists, in short it seeks to highlight those initiatives that have promoted the advancement of knowledge, the improvement of the quality of life of the communities and the strengthening of the social fabric through the application of scientific and technological solutions”, and added “The work of this year’s laureate stimulates this government, CONFIE, to continue promoting science in all its aspects , in all areas and disciplines, in all knowledge-generating institutions to improve well-being and social coexistence,” said Karam Quiñónez.

The award-winning Dr. Crisantema Hernández thanked the distinction and the support from the state government and the organization. “Sinaloa is an example because it supports science, Sinaloa is an example because it has people moving forward, Sinaloa has everything we need to get ahead, we are great and we are a prosperous Sinaloa and this is how we are going to continue working, because this is what exalts to the state science and all the support that our government gives us to move forward,” he expressed.

It should be added that Dr. Alejandro David Ortiz Marín was also awarded the “Eustaquio Buelna” prize for the best Postgraduate Thesis at the Doctoral level for his thesis titled “Evaluation of advanced photochemical oxidation processes for the efficient treatment of wastewater” and Ms. Guadalupe Yuceli Sánchez Núñez, at the Master’s level for her thesis “Design, selection and application of procedures for hydrological studies in urban areas of Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico”, both projects of great impact for the state.

The “Dr. César Abelino Ordorica Falomir” is accompanied by recognition, a financial reward of 100 thousand pesos and a gold medal, while the Eustaquio Buelna Award for the Best Postgraduate Thesis includes recognition and a financial reward of 50 thousand pesos for the thesis. doctorate, and 30 thousand pesos for the master’s thesis, motivating Sinaloans to continue contributing efforts for the good of Sinaloa.

Present at the ceremony were the Secretary of Health Dr. Cuitláhuac González Galindo, the Secretary of Agriculture and Livestock Ismael Bello Esquivel, educational authorities, Deputy Manuel Guerrero President of the Science and Technology Commission, owners and representatives of the Government Board of CONFIE, winners from previous years, thesis advisors and companions.
