The governor of Bahia, Jerônimo Rodrigues, decreed three days of official mourning in the state after a 14-year-old student killed three classmates and took his own life this Friday afternoon (18) in Heliópolis, in the north of Bahia. The massacre took place at Colégio Municipal Dom Pedro I, in the town of Serra dos Correias, around 330 kilometers from the capital Salvador, close to the border with Sergipe.
According to the Bahia Security Secretariat, around 5pm yesterday, the young man got up from his desk during a class and killed three classmates, two 15-year-old girls and a teenager of the same age.
In addition to declaring official mourning, Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues determined the speed of investigation of the case and offered support to the mayor of Heliópolis, José Mendonça Dantas.
“I have just received the sad and regrettable news of the death of four young people, students from the municipal network in the city of Heliópolis. My condolences to all the students’ families and colleagues. I ordered the Public Security Secretariat to immediately investigate the matter. We are already providing the necessary support to the municipality and Mayor Mendonça through the state government structure”, wrote the governor.
Through an official note, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security lamented the tragedy and announced help in the investigation. “The Ministry is in contact with local authorities to provide all necessary support to investigate the case. Through the Cyber Operations Laboratory (Ciberlab), the MJSP will assist investigators so that the facts are clarified as soon as possible”, informed the folder.
The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, lamented the deaths and made the ministry’s psychological care teams available. “I called Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues and Mayor Mendonça and made the Ministry of Education at their complete disposal, sending a team of psychologists specializing in the Psychology of Emergencies and Disasters, who make up the core of response and reconstruction of school communities after terrorist attacks. extreme violence”, posted Santana.
Former governor of Bahia, the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, spoke out about the crime. “In this moment of pain, I send my solidarity and prayers to the families and friends of the victims, as well as the entire school community. It is devastating to think of the innocent lives that were cut short in such a tragic way,” he wrote.
