Second pedestrian floors in the world
In New York City, United States, elevated freight train tracks were abandoned in the 1980s due to the risk posed by the transit of these units.
Between 1990 and 2000, a discussion arose about the demolition of the elevated roads, considering that they caused a “bad appearance.” In 2003, an organization called “Friends “High Line” launched a contest of ideas to take advantage of the space and, among the more than 700 proposals, an elevated urban promenade with vegetation, cultural spaces, as well as commercial areas was promoted.
The High Line today is a 2.3-kilometer elevated space with 500 species of plants and trees with free art spaces along the entire route and is currently a tourist attraction in the city.
In Paris, France, some abandoned train tracks in the 12th arrondissement also became what is now known as Coulée verte René-Dumontan elevated linear park 4.7 kilometers long.
It was inaugurated in 1993 and has green areas, bridges, aqueducts and areas to appreciate architecture from different periods.
Today I discovered the René-Dumont Green Path, a linear garden made on some old train tracks. It is 4.7 km but you can continue straight and you will find a castle (the Château de Vincennes) pic.twitter.com/KvWMiNc8q9
