A shipment of 8.3 tons of drugs was intercepted by the military in the waters of the Mexican Pacific, in what constitutes the largest seizure in the country in an operation at sea, reported the Navy Navy.
The drug was found divided into six boats minors who were intercepted southwest of the port of Lázaro Cárdenas by the authorities, who detained 23 crew members.
“Naval personnel seized 8,361 kilograms of illicit cargo, which represents the largest amount of drugs seized in a maritime operation, unprecedented in history,” the Secretary of the Navy said in a statement.
Containers with 8,700 liters of fuel were also seized on the raided vessels, another of the illicit traffic controlled by the drug trafficking cartels.
Insurance with a value of more than 2,000 million pesos
“The insured effects represent an impact of more than 2,099 million pesos (about 105 million dollars)”, the portfolio indicated in the bulletin.

In previous years, the Navy has achieved higher drug seizures, but on land during operations in Pacific ports, one of the largest drug trafficking routes.

“Complex” operation-
One of the vessels involved were of the submersible typewhich involved a “complex” action on the part of the sailors, the Navy added.
It was necessary to “carry out an aerial insertion from a helicopter over the vessel in full motion,” he explained in the statement.
In November 2007, Navy soldiers located a shipment of 23 tons of cocaine from Colombia, the largest drug seizure in the country.
On August 23, authorities reported the seizure of 7.2 tons of drugs in two different operations carried out in the same area of the country.
The Navy soldiers, who carry out surveillance operations on a permanent basis, have located all types of drug shipments, including one in 2017 of cocaine mixed in hot sauce.
Mexico has been the route of the drug trafficking to the United Stateswhich has sparked disputes between different drug groups.
In the state of Michoacán, on whose coasts the operation was carried out, different local cells operate that wage disputes with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG)one of the most powerful in the country.
Since 2006, when an anti-drug offensive with military participation was declared, Mexico has accumulated more than 450,000 murders and some 100,000 disappearances, according to official figures.
