Danish Refugee Council confirms arrest of team member in Venezuela

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) confirmed this Friday, October 18, the detention of a staff member of Colombian nationality by the Venezuelan authorities.

“At the time of his arrest, he was entering the country to carry out programmatic work. Immediately after his arrest and since then, DRC has been in constant contact with the Colombian authorities, as well as with his family and UN entities,” the international organization reported in a statement.

The DRC stated that the safety and well-being of its team members, both physically and mentally, remains the institution’s top priority. “We continue to explore all possible avenues to resolve this case,” reads part of the release.

“As a humanitarian organization DRC operates with strict neutrality and impartiality. Our work focuses exclusively on the provision of humanitarian aidwithout interfering in any political matter,” the organization said.
