In the transport sector there is concern because the head of the MTC, Juan Silva Villegas, and President Pedro Castillo Terrones are leaving adrift the Superintendence of Land Transportation of People, Cargo and Merchandise (Sutran), whose Board of Directors is incomplete after the resignation, more than a month ago, of Sumac Inés Ormeño Villalba.
Ormeño was an adviser and representative of the TCM on the Board of Directors of the Sutran, whose tasks, according to the regulations, are to define the institution’s policy and comply with its objectives and goals; appoint and remove public officials; issue rules to regulate the operation of the institution; approve the creation of decentralized offices of the institution; create or deactivate managements; evaluate the performance and results of Sutran, among other activities.
The Board of Directors is made up of the Superintendent (head of the Sutran), a representative from the PCM and another from the MTC. The absence of one of them makes it unable to function, so the carriers do not explain why the Executive does not appoint the representative of the MTC so that Sutran can carry out its work, which is now paralyzed in the important decision making.

The deputy manager of records and enforcement of sanctions, María Inés Esquivel Valdivia, recently resigned, and they cannot include her replacement because the member of the MTC has not been appointed to the Board of Directors of that body.
“With what you have, Sutran is trying to move forward, but it is essential that the Board of Directors be completed so that the work of this body can be made viable”, pointed out Martín Ojeda, attorney representing the carriers.
The specialist considered it necessary that the Sutran can be reactivated due to the fact that the transport sector is in a serious crisis and in the TCM Informal transport is being encouraged, to the point that on Friday there will be a meeting of officials from the Ministry of Transport with motorcycle taxi drivers, informal bus drivers and others from the northern macro region under the name of “decentralized work table” in the school recreation center of engineers from Chiclayo.

“This meeting will be attended by collective car transporters, mototaxis, taxis, and they are doing it to press for the regulation of collective cars. We, who are a national union and cover all regions, have not been summoned: this is a mockery,” Ojeda said.
