In less than 10 seconds, the attacker carried out the attack and quickly fled towards 5 de Mayo Street, where an accomplice was waiting for him aboard a motorcycle, with whom he escaped to an unknown direction.

Although the authorities claim to have deployed all their human and intelligence resources to locate those responsible for the attack, Alejandra Barrios Richardmother of the activist and main leader of merchants in the capital, accused her niece Claudia Morales of being the intellectual author of the attack and members of The Tepito Union of being the material authors.

Who is Diana Sánchez Barrios?

It belongs to a family that for more than 30 years has controlled informal and established commerce, mainly in the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office.

She is currently 49 years old and is the founder of the civil association Prodianadedicated to the support of the LGBT+ population

For 16 years he was a member of the PRD, a party with which in 2012 he sought to occupy a seat in the defunct Legislative Assembly of the Federal District. He also sought the pre-candidacy for the Cuauhtémoc delegation headquarters, without obtaining it.

Through activism, he promoted initiatives in the capital’s legislature for the rectification of birth certificates for transgender people in 2014 and promoted the Non-Salaried Workers Lawfor the benefit of the capital’s merchants.

After resigning from the PRD in 2018, he supported and promoted the Morenista candidacy Nestor Nunez. A couple of years later he joined the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the same one in which his mother, Alejandra Barrios Richard, has been a member for decades.

With her civil organization, Diana Sánchez Barrios forged her own commerce network in streets such as Francisco I. In the 2020-2021 electoral process, Diana Sánchez Barrios was nominated by the Va por la CDMX alliance – made up of PAN, PRI and PRD – to run for district nine in Cuauhtémoc, for the position of local deputy.

However, on March 17, 2021, she was arrested at the intersection of Reforma and Bucareli for the crimes of extortion and aggravated gang robbery, which is why her sister, Silvia Sánchez Barriostook his place in the electoral contest and occupied a seat in the Congress of Mexico City with the PRI bench.

In December of that same year, a capital judge determined that Diana Sánchez Barrios could leave the Santa Martha Acatitla prison and continue her criminal process in freedom.

For the 2024 electoral process, Silvia Sánchez Barrios once again held a seat in the capital’s Congress through the multi-member route with the PRI and her sister Diana was registered as her substitute. However, during her swearing-in as a deputy, Silvia resigned from the PRI and formed the Parliamentary Association Women for Feminist and Inclusive Traderelated to the Morena party.
