The representative of the Dominican Liberation Party for the province of San Cristóbal, Nelson Saulo Vega, demanded that government authorities implement a permanent road awareness campaign until citizens understand the commitment of having a steering wheel in their hands.
The legislator’s alarm call arises from recent traffic accidents that occurred in San Cristóbal, among which the tragic death of the content creator on social networks stood out. Dioelmi Cabrera “Eldelovideo”, who lost his life along with his wife, after being hit by the driver of a vehicle, who remains at large.
“It’s not just driving, it’s taking care of yourself. We Dominicans go out to the streets, we take a guide and we don’t know the conditions in which we are going to get home, because driving in the Dominican Republic is truly a journey,” said Saulo Vega in this Wednesday’s session in the Chamber of Deputies. .
Likewise, he called on the Ministry of Education to teach the subject of driver’s education in secondary school so that adolescents can understand the value and responsibility of driving a steering wheel.
“We must tell INTRANT that we must be cautious when issuing licenses, since, if we do not do it under the method of a theoretical and sociological examination, we will continue under the current method, granting; not a driver’s license, but licenses to kill, which is what it seems with so many reckless drivers,” the congressman added.
Saulo Vega called on the Ministry of Public Works to place signage on roads, on return routes and on pedestrian paths, after adding that, along with the damage to health caused by accidents, driving in the country has become a stress, for the stress caused by driving in the Dominican Republic.
