Víctor Mejía was sworn in as head of the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) before the president of the JudiciaryJavier Arevalo.

The new superintendent is a lawyer from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), a master in Taxation and Fiscal Policy from the University of Lima, with specialization in the Advanced Program in Spanish Business Law and the European Union at the University of Navarra, Spain .
From 2000 to 2018 he worked at the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration, performing various functions. Likewise, he worked as a tax teacher at the master’s level at the University of Lima, Universidad PC, among others.
The swearing-in ceremony took place in the Oath Hall of the National Palace of Justice, in the Center of Lima, and was attended by the Minister of Economy and Finance, José Arista, as well as the executive secretary of the Inter-American Center of Administrations Tax (CIAT).
Mejía enters the position replacing the economist Gerardo López Gonzales. Regarding this change, Minister Arista stated that what was wanted is a leader who has different skills.
“What happens is that growing institutions require different skills. In this case, Gerardo (López) fulfilled the task of waking up Sunat from the lethargy in which he was three or four years ago,” he stated at the time.
