The dollar in free fall, approaches $ 42 in the wholesale

In line with the downward trend of the last few days, the dollar fell for the third time in a row so far this week and has approached $42 in the interbank market. This Wednesday the currency registered a strong decrease of 0.86%, the most important for one day since July 2020, and it was $42.27 in the wholesale average, according to data from the Electronic Stock Exchange (Bevsa). It is the lowest price since February last year.

The exchange rate is now $2.43 below last year’s last trade: $44.70, leading to a 5.54% depreciation against the Uruguayan peso. The last transaction of the day was agreed at $42.2, with a fall of 0.71% compared to Tuesday.

During the day there were operations for a total of US$ 10.3 million without the intervention of the Central Bank (BCU), which remains outside the spot market.

For its part, on the BROU board, the currency was offered to the public at $41.32 for purchase and $43.4 for sale, almost 30 hundredths less than yesterday.

At the regional level, in Brazil also fell sharply (0.9%) and was about to leave the strip of 5 reais per greenback. In Chile, the exchange rate closed at its lowest level in five months at 790 pesos.

Globally, the Dollar Index, which measures the value of the US dollar against a basket of foreign currencies, rose 0.17 to 96.1.
