Etecsa on Communicator’s Day, for greater social responsibility (+ Videos)

More than a cell phone line, a combined package of data, voice and calls, the fixed telephone line, or the Wi-Fi network of the park, the Telecommunications Company of Cuba SA (Etecsa), is a large workers’ house that day after day bets on a committed work, without rest days and always to guarantee its clients a good service to the extent of the possibilities available to the country.

This February 24, Communicator’s Day, is the appropriate day to celebrate achievements and put on the table tasks in progress and other pending ones, all to move forward in the most important task that we all have today in the nation, the computerization process. of society, of which the company has been in the forefront to guarantee the deployment of the necessary technology for its implementation throughout the archipelago.

As explained on the official Etecsa website, the company expands its services and “responsibly assumes the fulfillment of goals to bring access to telephony and connectivity services to both urban and rural areas, until reaching each community. inhabited, in pursuit of the economic development of each place and to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of all citizens”.

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the social and physical distancing measures that had to be implemented, at times strictly to contain contagion, it opted to increase connectivity levels in general and in the institutional sector . It is also worth noting the readjustment that had to be made due to teleworking, which caused the greatest traffic to move to residential areas.

The new coronavirus did not represent an obstacle, on the contrary, “the epidemiological situation in Cuba required us to work in complex conditions where the fundamental premises were caring for human beings and guaranteeing telecommunications, which were more important than ever. Efforts were concentrated on commercial actions and the growth of services to respond to the growing demand of the population”.

Likewise, it made distance education possible for each child, “among the actions that made it possible is free access, from landlines and mobiles, to teaching content, such as the Cubaeduca site and the Virtual Environment platforms of Teaching Learning of universities. Likewise, the educational sites were hosted in our data centers, to ensure greater availability to users”.

Etecsa has thousands of workers throughout the national territory, of all ages, including the elderly who work as service agents. Quite the contrary, as one might think of telecommunications or information technology linked to the male figure, the company is the best example of the empowerment of Cuban women in this labor sector, from commercials to managers, it is the women who rule the roost.

“We work on labor inclusion with a gender approach, both in the operation of services and in company administration positions, paying tribute to the empowerment of women. At the same time, a culture of girls in ICT is spread and consolidated”. Children and young people are supplemented with their training through telephony interest circles and specialized centers sponsored by the company in universities.

Cuba has been living for a few years in an internet boom since the service was extended through mobile data, so, if for the new generations the learning was instantaneous, others have had to adapt little by little to the change, and for this, the spots on how to save data, make configurations, among other aids, have been a great support that have been broadcast on television.

“Around the family, we promote in all our communication work messages that promote good practices and the responsible use of technologies by adults, young people and children, for access to ICTs from an educational perspective, fostering a digital culture for the full enjoyment of the universe of possibilities that access to technology offers, whether for work, learning, entertainment or daily life”.

But it also goes further, as it is immersed in the Life Task, a plan of the Cuban government to confront climate change, “an environmental management aimed at energy efficiency, the reduction of pollution and the promotion of an environmental culture, which is evident in the acquisition of electric vehicles powered by solar energy, the installation of more efficient energy technologies”.

Likewise, for the conservation of the environment, they work “in the protection of natural areas and their riches where our technologies are installed, complying with established regulations. On the other hand, in times of digitalization, projects of utility and social awareness are promoted, such as the recycling of the Telephone Directory, the issuance of electronic invoices and the provision of digital services to replace paper consumption.

Our telecommunications company, although it has been the subject of negative media campaigns, has played a key role and has been in constant development in recent years. For each month that passes, there are more homes with Nauta Hogar, more people communicate with their relatives, the prices of mobile telephony and its services have tended to decrease in price, there are more base stations installed for LTE, more interconnected institutions.
