This was announced by the National Department of Planning, which in an official statement indicated that this is the third Ministerial Summit on Social Inclusion in Bogotá, which will aim to examine more broadly the factors behind the persistence of poverty. inequality and informality in the region.

“According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Latin America remains one of the most unequal regions in the world, along with the Middle East, where the top 10% of the income distribution captures 54% of the average national income,” they began counting.

As explained by Planning, this summit seeks to expand the political debate on challenges such as the fragmentation of social protection, the causes of stagnant social mobility and innovative tools to empower local communities and, for the first time, will discuss popular economy.

“It will bring together ministers and senior government officials from OECD countries and Latin America and the Caribbean, the European Union, international organizations, academia and civil society. Its objective is to generate solutions between countries to address the social challenges of the region,” they noted in the statement.
The Third Ministerial Summit on Social Inclusion, under the motto “Rethinking Productive Inclusion”, will be held within the framework of the OECD-LAC Social Inclusion Week and following the experience of recent years, the Ministerial will serve as the culmination of a series of events and substantive contributions throughout 2024.

“The Ministerial Summit will be held on October 22 in Bogotá (Colombia), coinciding with the XXII Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor of the OAS. Following the usual scheme, there will be four public sessions in the morning and three ministerial sessions, behind closed doors, in the afternoon,” they reiterated from the DNP.
