The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, inaugurated the 66th edition of the Arturo Michelena Hall in the state of Carabobo, in support of the Venezuelan cultural movement that exhibits its works in one of the main national exhibitions for the recognition of our artists. plastics.
Coming from 21 states in the country, the artists exhibit 259 works that address the areas of painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, installation, video art, digital art, among others, which can be seen in the different rooms of this open-door venue.
The selection process took four and a half months, after evaluating 962 works, to give impetus to this new edition of the Arturo Michelena salon, which is resumed for the second consecutive year after a 15-year hiatus.
“All the artists must be congratulated for their work, their work, their dedication,” said President Maduro while highlighting that 66% of the works presented are paintings. “Now we are painting,” said the president in relation to the belief that there is not a strong movement of painters in the country.
The head of state urged all Venezuelans to recognize the profound power of art. “All the work that has to be done with art is the strength of the soul of identity,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of bringing the museum to the community, highlighting that it must always have its doors open for students and artists. “All museum spaces have to be open to show the talent of our plastic artists,” he indicated.
He added that culture and art should be encouraged and make the museum an inclusive space, where everyone can learn and express themselves.
In a contact with the mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, President Maduro made the announcement that the Alejandro Otero Museum, located in the El Valle parish, was completely recovered. “We are in an extensive activity of restoration and improvement of the country’s museums,” he said.
He reported that the call for the Architecture Competition for the proposal for a new headquarters of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Caracas, Armando Reverón, was approved.
Likewise, he announced that for the year 2025, the Southern Biennial is being organized in our country, which will have the BRICS countries as special guests.
