President Gustavo Petro celebrated this Thursday the approval, in the second debate of the House of Representatives, of the labor reform that his Government presented and that in this way advances in its process in Congress.

Through his X account, the head of state assured that with this approval “We are closer to building a fair labor system, focused on protecting workers’ rights”.

In that same sense, the Minister of Labor, Gloria Inés Ramírez, also reacted to the decision and assured that the reform is necessary to bring social justice to the country’s workers.
“We all know that 40% of jobs are at risk, but we also think that there is an impact of technology that is important to keep in mind, because it could also generate jobs”stated the Mintrabajo Ramírez, who added that it seeks to protect “those who are behind the machine, robotics, drones”.

The initiative was officially approved with 81 articles (73 of the articles after the elimination of 7 and eight new ones) in second debate and may move to the Senate, where it will have to be discussed in the Seventh Committee and, if passed, in plenary.
The reform has a deadline to be fully approved (four debates and conciliation) until June 20, 2025.
