The Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, This Wednesday, he addressed the current situation of electrical energy in the Dominican Republic.
Santos explained that the amount of energy delivered has increased significantly, reaching more than 95% of energy available to the population.
This increase has allowed citizens to get used to receiving a regular supply, but also highlighted the need to formalize the illegal connections that still persist in the country so that blackouts decrease.
“The supply right now is higher than the demand, the great challenge comes in the summer season, which is when significant increases in temperature are being recorded,” he explained.
In terms of energy development, the minister announced that 30 projects are currently being executed that, together, will add more than 3,000 megawatts of capacity.
Of these, 2,200 megawatts will come from gas, with around 1,300 megawatts expected to be completed during this period.
In addition, 1,025 megawatts of renewable energy are being incorporated, which promises to further increase the national energy supply.
“That is why the government has insisted so much that among the points of the reform to include some 18 billion pesos annually, which are the capital investments necessary to continue strengthening where the main challenges of the system are, which is energy distribution,” he explained. .
Santos stressed that the system works in a coordinated manner and that there has been a notable increase in energy supply, with demand growing above economic growth, which was almost 7% last year and is projected at 8.35% for this year. anus.
“Last week the historical record of demand supplied in 1 day was broken, 3,863 megawatts, the energy supply is growing and practically covers the demand,” he said.
