The Sutep carries out the protest in a staggered manner, which It began this Wednesday the 16th in Loreto, Tumbes, Ica and Arequipa. In the coming days, other regions will join, the leaders indicated.
The general secretary of Sutep, Luis Castro, announced that the measure is due to the government’s failure to comply with the agreements signed with the teachers’ union. “The unfulfilled agreements have the force of law and their only objective is to direct us to solve the serious problems faced by schoolchildren and the entire educational community.”said.
“One of these problems is the critical state of the infrastructure of many schools in the country, which seriously endangers life and human dignity.”, he indicated.
“Not complying with allocating 6% of the GDP, as mandated by the Constitution, and only raising the budget of the Education sector in a minimum proportionprevents taking care of the health of the students with psychologists, nurses and dentists, as well as guaranteeing their safety and nutrition. Besides, The commitment to fairly increase the salaries of teachers and assistants is not met.. 68% of the teaching profession is in the first remuneration scale, with a net salary of 2,600 soles after discounts,” he specified.
He announced that the rest of the regions will join the strike daily. “Starting on the 21st it will be at the national level if the government persists in not providing solutions and Congress supports it by denying a budget increase that is now in its hands. The staggered strike offers the possibility for the authorities to reflect and find solutions,” he stressed.
