CGU opens investigation to investigate allegations against Aneel directors

The Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) reported this Wednesday (16) that it opened, in response to complaints sent by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, an investigation to investigate irregularities involving directors of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel ).CGU opens investigation to investigate allegations against Aneel directors

“The investigative process continues confidentially, in accordance with current regulations, in order to guarantee the integrity of the investigations and due legal process. The CGU reaffirms its commitment to transparency and the correction of possible misconduct in public administration and will keep the public informed as soon as the process is completed”, said the Comptroller, in a note.

Earlier, minister Alexandre Silveira charged Aneel again the opening of a “quick, swift and objective” process to determine whether the electricity distribution company Enel has been failing to comply with clauses in the service concession contract in the metropolitan region of the city of São Paulo.

“I defend that Aneel opens a quick, swift and objective process to determine whether it [Enel] failed to comply with regulatory indices that the TCU [Tribunal de Contas da União] said last year that she did not fail to comply. And that, if [a empresa] has failed to comply, initiate proceedings and present to the granting authority [União] the possibilities [de sanções]”, declared Silveira.

Last Monday (14), the CGU began an audit to determine responsibility for the electricity blackout in the metropolitan region of São Paulo.

“There was some failure. To what extent is this failure within Aneel’s supervision [Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica]to what extent this failure is the responsibility of the São Paulo state agency itself or, to what extent there may have been some type of manipulation mechanism within the company itself so that the failures it eventually made were not detected, all of this to our investigation will determine and measure”, explained the CGU minister, Vinícius de Carvalho.
