The former president, who was extradited from the United States in April 2023, is accused of the crime of collusion. According to the Public Ministry, Toledo favored companies in tenders for the construction of the Peru-Brazil Interoceanic Road Corridor.
In sections 2 and 3, the consortium made up of Odebrecht, Graña y Montero and JJ Camet e Ingenieros managed to obtain the tender. Likewise, for section 4, the Intersur Consortium, made up of the companies Andrade Gutiérrez and Camargo Correo, Queiroz Galvão, was favored.
According to Jorge Barata’s confession to the Peruvian prosecutor’s office, Odebrecht paid at least US$20 million in bribes to the former president to obtain the award of sections 2 and 3 of the South Interoceanic Highway.
In addition, he would also have received another payment of 6 million for the Intersur consortium to win the tender for section 4 of the same road.
