The football team Mexico won 2-0 on Tuesday against its counterpart USA in a preparation match for the 2026 World Cup that both countries will organize together with Canada. In the match played at the Akron stadium in Guadalajara, in western Mexico, he stood out Raul Jimenez with a goal and an assist.
Mexico took the lead in the 21st minute when Jiménez put the ball in the left corner after taking a free kick. The team led by Javier ‘Vasco’ Aguirre increased its advantage in the 49th minute with a shot by César Huerta inside the area after receiving a pass from Jiménez, who gave the service by sliding over an American defender to recover the ball after having lost it.
The United States came close to scoring in the 79th minute with a powerful shot from Brandon Vázquez that was deflected by goalkeeper Luis Ángel Malagón. The meeting was also the setting for a tribute to Andrés Guardado, who in May 2023 announced his retirement from the Mexican team after participating in five World Cups. The player, who currently plays for the León club, saw action for 18 minutes, in reference to the number he used with the national team.
