Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), ordered the extradition of those investigated for the coup acts of January 8, 2023 who are at large abroad.
The minister’s measure involves around 60 Brazilians who fled to Argentina after breaking their electronic ankle bracelet and blogger Oswaldo Eustáquio, who is in Spain.
The full decisions are under judicial secrecy, and the details have not been disclosed.
The processing of extradition requests is long and there is no provision for the accused to be arrested and sent to Brazil.
Extradition requests were made to the minister by the Federal Police. After authorization of the measure, the processes went to the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It will be up to Brazilian diplomacy and the ministry to carry out the international procedures of the case.
The STF has already sentenced more than 200 people involved in January 8th. They are responsible for the crimes of armed criminal association, qualified damage, deterioration of listed property, violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law and attempted coup d’état.
