Special Senate Commission interviews 30 candidates for JCE members

HOLY SUNDAY. – The Special Commission of the Senate of the Republic, formed to study the proposals for candidates for the selection of members of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), for the period 2024-2028, interviewed this Tuesday 30 of the 103 candidates registered for perform the functions of holder, member, and substitute of the electoral body.

The applicants had five minutes to talk about their resume and the plans to develop, if they were elected to be part of the JCE, and then they were subjected to questions by the members of the evaluation commission for ten minutes.

The president of the commission, Senator Julito Fulcar, described the process as interesting, dynamic and participatory, after assessing that it was carried out without incident.

“A good part of the candidates have a good resume, some have a lot of experience in electoral matters, law, technology, economics, and we are satisfied with the work carried out today,” said Senator Fulcar.

The interviews will continue this Wednesday in the morning hours only, since the Ordinary Session of the Senate of the Republic will be held in the afternoon, but they will continue next Thursday in the morning and afternoon sessions.

“The purpose is to conclude this interview process next Friday,” said the senator from Peravia, and then a date will be set the following week to deliberate on the evaluations.

Each member of the commission evaluates the applicants during the interviews individually, writes down an average score and at the end, they will meet to compare the individual scores and the final score for each of the participants will be the result of the average of the individual evaluations. .

When speaking with the press accredited in the Senate of the Republic, after the interviews, Senator Antonio Taveras Guzmán, member of the commission, stated that it is a process that complies with legal regulations and with the criteria that allow senators evaluate according to probity, preparation and that they are citizens who wish to contribute to the country.

“We want there to be diverse professions,” he said.

During the interviews, in addition to the president of the commission, Senator Julito Fulcar, senators Daniel Rivera, Ramón Rogelio Genao, Aracelis Villanueva, Pedro Catrain, Maria Mercedes Rodríguez, Antonio Taveras Guzmán, Eduard Espiritusanto and Franklin Romero were present during the interviews.
