Nicaragua’s dictator, Daniel Ortega, criticized Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, on Monday for the war in Gaza. Ortega described the senior Jewish official as “son of the devil.”
Ortega attacked the Israeli ruler at an event for the 45th anniversary of the Nicaraguan police, three days after Managua announced the breaking of diplomatic relations with the Jewish State.
«At the head of the government of Israel is a prime minister who is the son of the devil. Why? Because he carries out a policy of terror in practice and is (Adolfo) Hitler,” the former dictator of Nazi Germany (1933-1945), Ortega said in his speech.
«The Prime Minister of Israel is Hitler […]”, just like the one who presides over Ukraine (Volodimir Zelenski, who) is another Nazi son of Hitler,” added the head of the Sandinista dictatorship.
The ceremony was attended by his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo, government officials, uniformed personnel and several foreign diplomats.
Ortega also thanked the cooperation of China and Russia, countries with which he has strengthened ties in recent years, and even presented a decoration for “police friendship” to a senior Chinese official.
On Friday, Nicaragua announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Israel, country that Ortega had been criticizing for its war against the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in Gaza.
“Our President has instructed the Chancellery of the Republic to comply with this request from the National Parliament and to proceed with the breaking of diplomatic relations with the fascist and genocidal government of Israel,” said the vice president of Nicaragua and first lady, Rosario Murillo, to the announce the breaking of diplomatic ties.
This decision was largely symbolic, since exchanges between both countries are almost non-existent and Israel did not have a resident ambassador in Managua, and according to the official decree, the ambassador that Nicaragua had to the Israeli government served as a concurrent ambassador from Managua.
Israel and Nicaragua had reestablished diplomatic relations on March 28, 2017, after Ortega severed ties in 2010.
Managua had also severed diplomatic ties with Israel in 1982, during the Sandinista government led by Ortega following the revolutionary guerrilla movement’s takeover of 1979 and the overthrow of dictator Anastasio Somoza.
