Minsa reports more than 10 thousand suspected cases of dengue in October

In the first two weeks of this month of October, according to data from the authorities of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), 10,901 suspected cases of dengue have been detected in Nicaragua.

The Minsa has been developing the Campaign Against Dengue since last September 25 and in the reports on its development it began to include data on suspected cases that are registered every week in Nicaragua, after two months of hiding said information in the bulletins. epidemiological.

Between October 1 and 6, according to the Minsa, 5,234 people suspected of dengue were reported, while from October 7 to 13 the number of suspected cases of that disease was 5,667.

The Health authorities report that these suspected cases of dengue, within the framework of the disease campaign, received a “focus control” visit in their respective homes and communities.

Until July 31, according to the information that the Minsa updated to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), 51,640 suspected cases of dengue had been documented in the country. However, this figure could be double to date, if it is taken into account that for two months the authorities hid data related to suspected cases of the mosquito-transmitted disease from the weekly epidemiological reports.

More than 4,000 febrile cases

The Minsa also detected more than 4,000 febrile cases in the first two weeks of October, within the framework of the development of the Campaign Against Dengue.

In the week of October 1 to 6, they captured, in house-to-house visits, 2,162 people with fever. While from October 7 to 13, the number of people captured by the Minsa brigade members was reduced to 1,860 people with these symptoms.

Health authorities do not clarify whether these people caught with fever corresponded to suspected cases of dengue or were diagnosed with another disease.

The Minsa brigades, in addition to capturing feverish cases, eliminated in the last two weeks a total of 12,561,727 “mosquito breeding sites in schools, universities, markets, scrapyards, vulcanizers, vacant lots and homes nationwide.”
