The Brazilian Tennis Confederation (CBT) defined this Tuesday (15) the quintet that will compete in the playoffs (elimination stage) of the Billie Jean King Cup, the main women’s tournament between nations. Beyond São Paulo Beatriz Haddad, who returned to the world top 10, the team also includes Olympic medalist Laura Pigossi (127th), Carolina Meligeni (305th), Ingrid Martins (124th) and Luiza Fullana (574th). Newcomer to the competition, Luiza Fullana from Brasilia will replace Luisa Stefani – bronze medalist at the Tokyo Games in partnership with Pigossi -, who is recovering from knee pain and will no longer play this season.

Brazil’s opponent will be Argentina, at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium, in São Paulo, on November 15th and 16th. The playoff phase includes four singles games to determine the winner. In case of a tie, there will be a doubles match to decide who advances to who.ualifier (stage that brings together the best teams in the world) in April 2025.
“Expectations are super positive. We count a lot on the presence of our fans to fill the Ibirapuera Gymnasium and take us to the Qualifiers again”, called Luiz Peniza, coach of the Brazilian team.
The history of women’s clashes between Brazil x Argentina is balanced. There were four victories for each side in eight meetings. In the last of them, in 2022, Bia Haddad and Laura Pigossi won 3-1, in Tucamán (Argentina).
