After meeting with the minister of the Federal Audit Court (TCU), Augusto Nardes, and 16 mayors from the state of São Paulo on the afternoon of this Tuesday (15) at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, headquarters of the São Paulo government, the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitassaid he had requested support from the TCU so that the federal government intervenes in Enel, an electricity distributor in São Paulo. By the end of the afternoon, more than 158 thousand customers in Greater São Paulo remained without electricity since the storm that occurred last Friday night (11).
At the end of the meeting, the governor handed the TCU minister a letter requesting that the court take “the appropriate measures so that the competent federal bodies declare, as a matter of urgency, the intervention in the Enel concessionaire or the expiration of the contract”.
The document states that the company did not comply with the contingency plan presented by the concessionaire itself to face the effects of extreme weather events, in addition to the “inability to provide an essential and indispensable service to the population, and in line with the terms of the contract. concession requires.”
“The quality of the provision of the electrical energy distribution service, once again, proved to be far below expectations, considering that electrical energy is an essential good for the population and an indispensable public service, which must be provided on a regular, continuous basis. and efficient”, says the letter.
In an interview with journalists after the meeting, the TCU minister told journalists that he considered the “situation very serious” and that he would evaluate all the documentation he received today. “What I can say is that this is a federal concession and that, therefore, it is up to the TCU to monitor it. The TCU supervises Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency), which is responsible for carrying out the first inspection. We carry out the second inspection when a situation as dramatic as this occurs”, explained Nardes. Earlier, the TCU minister had already met with representatives from Enel and Aneel also in the capital of São Paulo.
For the governor, Enel is “an unfit company” to carry out this work. “The company (Enel) has already shown itself to be incapable of providing quality service in the city of São Paulo,” the governor told journalists shortly after the meeting. “Dialogue has existed for a long time [com a empresa]. But now we need action”, he added.
According to the governor, the letter delivered today to the TCU also requests a change in regulatory parameters. “The indicators we have in place today are totally inadequate. If we do not review regulatory parameters, we will continue operating with inefficient contracts. There is inefficiency in the model and it needs to be changed”, reinforced Tarcísio.
Last Friday night (11), heavy rain and winds that hit several cities in São Paulo impacted around 2.4 million consumers from Enel. Four days after the storm, there were still thousands of consumers without electricity.
