Woody Allen writes new collection of humorous essays

Woody Allen will publish a collection of humorous essays in June, two years after his controversial memoir “Apropos of Nothing.”

Arcade Publishing, an imprint of Skyhorse Publishing, announced Wednesday that “Zero Gravity” will be released June 7 with essays that have appeared in The New Yorker magazine and some written specifically for the book.

Neither will refer to Allen’s ex-partner, Mia Farrow, or his daughter Dylan Farrow, who has claimed the filmmaker sexually assaulted her as a child 30 years ago. Allen has denied the allegations.

According to Arcade, the book’s themes will include “horses that paint, cars that think” and “the sex lives of celebrities.” Titles include “Buffalo Wings Woncha Come Out Tonight,” “When Your Hood Ornament Is Nietzsche,” and “Growing Up in Manhattan.”

“’Zero Gravity’ implies that writing shouldn’t be taken seriously, but, as with any real humor, not all laughs are weightless,” he says in the Arcade ad.

Allen, 86, began publishing with Skyhorse in 2020 after the Hachette Book Group dropped “Apropos of Nothing” amid widespread criticism from its employees and another author at the publisher, Allen’s son Ronan Farrow, whom he has been estranged for a long time.

Allen has published four other collections of essays, including “Getting Even” and “Without Feathers.”
